Invitation To The Redbreast Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJKJLMNM DOPOQRQR

Sweet bird whom the winter constrainsA
And seldom another it canB
To seek a retreat while he reignsA
In the well shelter d dwellings of manB
Who never can seem to intrudeC
Though in all places equally freeD
Come oft as the season is rudeC
Thou art sure to be welcome to meD
-
At sight of the first feeble rayE
That pierces the clouds of the eastF
To inveigle thee every dayE
My windows shall show thee a feastF
For taught by experience I knowG
Thee mindful of benefit longH
And that thankful for all I bestowG
Thou wilt pay me with many a songH
-
Then soon as the swell of the budsI
Bespeaks the renewal of springJ
Fly hence if thou wilt to the woodsK
Or where it shall please thee to singJ
And shouldst thou compell d by a frostL
Come again to my window or doorM
Doubt not an affectionate hostN
Only pay as thou paid st me beforeM
-
This music must needs be confess dD
To flow from a fountain aboveO
Else how should it work in the breastP
Unchangeable friendship and loveO
And who on the globe can be foundQ
Save your generation and oursR
That can be delighted by soundQ
Or boasts any musical powersR
