God Hides His People Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD CECF GHGH IJKJ CLCM CNCO OPOQ OROR SCSC

To lay the soul that loves him lowA
Becomes the Only wiseB
To hide beneath a veil of woeA
The children of the skiesB
-
Man though a worm would yet be greatC
Though feeble would seem strongD
Assumes an independent stateC
By sacrilege and wrongD
-
Strange the reverse which once abasedC
The haughty creature provesE
He feels his soul a barren wasteC
Nor dares affirm he lovesF
-
Scorned by the thoughtless and the vainG
To God he presses nearH
Superior to the world's disdainG
And happy in its sneerH
-
Oh welcome in his heart he saysI
Humility and shameJ
Farewell the wish for human praiseK
The music of a nameJ
-
But will not scandal mar the goodC
That I might else performL
And can God work it if he wouldC
By so despised a wormM
-
Ah vainly anxious leave the LordC
To rule thee and disposeN
Sweet is the mandate of his wordC
And gracious all he doesO
-
He draws from human littlenessO
His grandeur and renownP
And generous hearts with joy confessO
The triumph all his ownQ
-
Down then with self exalting thoughtsO
Thy faith and hope employR
To welcome all that he allotsO
And suffer shame with joyR
-
No longer then thou wilt encroachS
On his eternal rightC
And he shall smile at thy approachS
And make thee his delightC
