From Menander Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGFG HIHJ KLKL

Fond youth who dream'st that hoarded goldA
Is needful not alone to payB
For all thy various items soldA
To serve the wants of every dayB
-
Bread vinegar and oil and meatC
For savory viands season'd highD
But somewhat more important yetE
I tell thee what it cannot buyD
-
No treasure hadst thou more amass'dF
Than fame to Tantalus assign'dG
Would save thee from a tomb at lastF
But thou must leave it all behindG
-
I give thee therefore counsel wiseH
Confide not vainly in thy storeI
However large much less despiseH
Others comparatively poorJ
-
But in thy more exalted stateK
A just and equal temper showL
That all who see thee rich and greatK
May deem thee worthy to be soL
