Familiarity Dangerous Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDEF GHGH IJIJ

As in her ancient mistress lapA
The youthful tabby layB
They gave each other many a tapA
Alike disposed to playB
-
But strife ensues Puss waxes warmC
And with protruded clawsD
Ploughs all the length of Lydia s armE
Mere wantonness the causeF
-
At once resentful of the deedG
She shakes her to the groundH
With many a threat that she shall bleedG
With still a deeper woundH
-
But Lydia bid thy fury restI
It was a venial strokeJ
For she that will with kittens jestI
Should bear a kitten s jokeJ
