Epitaph On Fop, A Dog Belonging To Lady Throckmorton Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEE

Though once a puppy and though Fop by nameA
Here moulders one whose bones some honour claimA
No sycophant although of spaniel raceB
And though no hound a martyr to the chaceB
Ye squirrels rabbits leverets rejoiceC
Your haunts no longer echo to his voiceC
This record of his fate exulting viewD
He died worn out with vain pursuit of youD
Yes the indignant shade of Fop repliesE
And worn with vain pursuit man also diesE

William Cowper
