Ephraim Repenting Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEFE GHIJ AKAL MNMN OPOQ

Jeremiah xxxiA
-
My God till I received Thy strokeB
How like a beast was IC
So unaccustom'd to the yokeB
So backward to complyC
-
With grief my just reproach I hearD
Shame fills me at the thoughtE
How frequent my rebellions wereF
What wickedness I wroughtE
-
Thy merciful restraint I scorn'dG
And left the pleasant roadH
Yet turn me and I shall be turn'dI
Thou art the Lord my GodJ
-
Is Ephraim banish'd from my thoughtsA
Or vile in my esteemK
No saith the Lord with all his faultsA
I still remember himL
-
Is he a dear and pleasant childM
Yes dear and pleasant stillN
Though sin his foolish heart beguiledM
And he withstood my willN
-
My sharp rebuke has laid him lowO
He seeks my face againP
My pity kindles at his woeO
He shall not seek in vainQ
