Dependence Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE FGHG IJIJ KLKL MJMN

To keep the lamp aliveA
With oil we fill the bowlB
'Tis water makes the willow thriveA
And grace that feeds the soulB
-
The Lord's unsparing handC
Supplies the living streamD
It is not at our own commandC
But still derived from HimE
-
Beware of Peter's wordF
Nor confidently sayG
I never will deny Thee LordH
But Grant I never mayG
-
Man's wisdom is to seekI
His strength in God aloneJ
And e'en an angel would be weakI
Who trusted in his ownJ
-
Retreat beneath his wingsK
And in His gace confideL
This more exalts the King of kingsK
Than all your works besideL
-
In Jesus is our storeM
Grace issues from His throneJ
Whoever says I want no moreM
Confesses he has doneN
