Phillipians ivA
-
Fierce passions discompose the mindB
As tempests vex the seaC
But calm content and peace we findB
When Lord we turn to TheeC
-
In vain by reason and by ruleD
We try to bend the willE
For none but in the Saviour's schoolD
Can learn the heavenly skillE
-
Since at His feet my soul has sateF
His gracious words to hearG
Contented with my present stateF
I cast on Him my careH
-
quot Art thou a sinner soul quot He saidI
quot Then how canst thou complainJ
How light thy troubles here if weigh'dK
With everlasting painJ
-
quot If thou of murmuring wouldst be curedL
Compare thy griefs with mineM
Think what my love for thee enduredL
And thou wilt not repineM
-
quot 'Tis I appoint thy daily lotN
And I do all things wellO
Thou soon shalt leave this wretched spotN
And rise with me to dwellO
-
quot In life my grace shall strength supplyP
Proportion'd to thy dayQ
At death thou still shalt find me nighP
To wipe thy tears away quotQ
-
Thus I who once my wretched daysR
In vain repinings spentQ
Taught in my Saviour's school of graceS
Have learnt to be contentQ
