Contentment. - Philippians Iv.11 Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFGH IJKJ LMLM NONO PQPQ RSTS

Fierce passions discompose the mindA
As tempests vex the seaB
But calm content and peace we findA
When Lord we turn to theeB
-
-
In vain by reason and by ruleC
We try to bend the willD
For none but in the Saviour's schoolC
Can learn the heavenly skillD
-
-
Since at his feet my soul has satE
His gracious words to hearF
Contented with my present stateG
I cast on him my careH
-
-
Art thou a sinner soul he saidI
Then how canst thou complainJ
How light thy troubles here if weigh'dK
With everlasting painJ
-
-
If thou of murmuring wouldst be curedL
Compare thy griefs with mineM
Think what my love for thee enduredL
And thou wilt not repineM
-
-
'Tis I appoint thy daily lotN
And I do all things wellO
Thou soon shalt leave this wretched spotN
And rise with me to dwellO
-
-
In life my grace shall strength supplyP
Proportion'd to thy dayQ
At death thou still shalt find me nighP
To wipe thy tears awayQ
-
-
Thus I who once my wretched daysR
In vain repinings spentS
Taught in my Saviour's school of graceT
Have learnt to be contentS
