Beau's Reply Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIK LMNM OPOP

Sir when I flew to seize the birdA
In spite of your commandB
A louder voice than yours I heardA
And harder to withstandB
-
-
You cried Forbear but in my breastC
A mightier cried ProceedD
'Twas nature Sir whose strong behestC
Impell'd me to the deedD
-
-
Yet much as nature I respectE
I ventured once to breakF
As you perhaps may recollectE
Her precept for your sakeF
-
-
And when your linnet on a dayG
Passing his prison doorH
Had flutter'd all his strength awayG
And panting press'd the floorH
-
-
Well knowing him a sacred thingI
Not destined to my toothJ
I only kiss'd his ruffled wingI
And lick'd the feathers smoothK
-
-
Let my obedience then excuseL
My disobedience nowM
Nor some reproof yourself refuseN
From your aggrieved bow wowM
-
-
If killing birds be such a crimeO
Which I can hardly seeP
What think you Sir of killing timeO
With verse address'd to meP
