Apology To Delia: For Desiring A Lock Of Her Hair Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCE FGHG IJIK BLBL MNON BPBP

Delia the unkindest girl on earthA
When I besought the fairB
That favour of intrinsic worthA
A ringlet of her hairB
-
Refused that instant to complyC
With my absurd requestD
For reasons she could specifyC
Some twenty score at leastE
-
Trust me my dear however oddF
It may appear to sayG
I sought it merely to defraudH
Thy spoiler of his preyG
-
Yes when its sister locks shall fadeI
As quickly fade they mustJ
When all their beauties are decayedI
Their gloss their colour lostK
-
Ah then if haply to my shareB
Some slender pittance fallL
If I but gain one single hairB
Nor age usurp them allL
-
When you behold it still as sleekM
As lovely to the viewN
As when it left thy snowy neckO
That Eden where it grewN
-
Then shall my Delia's self declareB
That I professed the truthP
And have preserved my little shareB
In everlasting youthP
