The Second Coming Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCADEF GGHFIJKLMNOPQR

Turning and turning in the widening gyreA
The falcon cannot hear the falconerA
Things fall apart the centre cannot holdB
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the worldC
The blood dimmed tide is loosed and everywhereA
The ceremony of innocence is drownedD
The best lack all conviction while the worstE
Are full of passionate intensityF
-
Surely some revelation is at handG
Surely the Second Coming is at handG
The Second Coming Hardly are those words outH
When a vast image out of Spiritus MundiF
Troubles my sight somewhere in sands of the desertI
A shape with lion body and the head of a manJ
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sunK
Is moving its slow thighs while all about itL
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birdsM
The darkness drops again but now I knowN
That twenty centuries of stony sleepO
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradleP
And what rough beast its hour come round at lastQ
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be bornR
