-
Roget droop not see the springB
Is the earth enamellingB
And the birds on every treeA
Greet this morn with melodyA
Hark how yonder thrustle chants itC
And her mate as proudly vants itC
See how every stream is dress'dD
By her margin with the bestD
Of Flora's gifts she seems gladE
For such brooks such flow'rs she hadE
All the trees are quaintly tiredF
With green buds of all desiredF
And the hawthorn every dayG
Spreads some little show of MayG
See the primrose sweetly setH
By the much lov'd violetC
All the banks do sweetly coverI
As they would invite a loverI
With his lass to see their dressingB
And to grace them by their pressingB
Yet in all this merry tideJ
When all cares are laid asideJ
Roget sits as if his bloodK
Had not felt the quick'ning goodL
Of the sun nor cares to playG
Or with songs to pass the dayG
As he wont fie Roget fieM
Raise thy head and merrilyA
Tune us somewhat to thy reedN
See our flocks do freely feedN
Here we may together sitC
And for music very fitC
Is this place from yonder woodL
Comes an echo shrill and goodL
Twice full perfectly it willO
Answer to thine oaten quillO
Roget droop not then but singB
Some kind welcome to the springB
