Roget droop not see the spring | B |
Is the earth enamelling | B |
And the birds on every tree | A |
Greet this morn with melody | A |
Hark how yonder thrustle chants it | C |
And her mate as proudly vants it | C |
See how every stream is dress'd | D |
By her margin with the best | D |
Of Flora's gifts she seems glad | E |
For such brooks such flow'rs she had | E |
All the trees are quaintly tired | F |
With green buds of all desired | F |
And the hawthorn every day | G |
Spreads some little show of May | G |
See the primrose sweetly set | H |
By the much lov'd violet | C |
All the banks do sweetly cover | I |
As they would invite a lover | I |
With his lass to see their dressing | B |
And to grace them by their pressing | B |
Yet in all this merry tide | J |
When all cares are laid aside | J |
Roget sits as if his blood | K |
Had not felt the quick'ning good | L |
Of the sun nor cares to play | G |
Or with songs to pass the day | G |
As he wont fie Roget fie | M |
Raise thy head and merrily | A |
Tune us somewhat to thy reed | N |
See our flocks do freely feed | N |
Here we may together sit | C |
And for music very fit | C |
Is this place from yonder wood | L |
Comes an echo shrill and good | L |
Twice full perfectly it will | O |
Answer to thine oaten quill | O |
Roget droop not then but sing | B |
Some kind welcome to the spring | B |
