Birds In May Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFGHHIJKKLK J

As woo'd by May's delights I have been borneA
To take the kind air of a wistful mornA
Near Tavy's voiceful stream to whom I oweB
More strains than from my pipe can ever flowB
Here have I heard a sweet bird never linC
To chide the river for his clam'rous dinC
There seem'd another in his song to tellD
That what the fair stream did he liked wellD
And going further heard another tooE
All varying still in what the others doE
A little thence a fourth with little painF
Conn'd all their lessons and them sung againG
So numberless the songsters are that singH
In the sweet groves of the too careless springH
That I no sooner could the hearing loseI
Of one of them but straight another roseJ
And perching deftly on a quaking sprayK
Nigh tir'd herself to make her hearer stayK
L
Shrill as a thrush upon a morn of MayK
-
From Britannia's PastoralsJ
