All the night in woeA
Lyca's parents goA
Over vallies deepB
While the desarts weepB
-
Tired and woe begoneC
Hoarse with making moanC
Arm in arm seven daysD
They trac'd the desert waysD
-
Seven nights they sleepB
Among shadows deepB
And dream they see their childE
Starvdd in desart wildE
-
Pale thro' pathless waysD
The fancied image straysD
Famish'd weeping weakF
With hollow piteous shriekF
-
Rising from unrestG
The trembling woman prestG
With feet of weary woeA
She could no further goA
-
In his arms he boreH
Her arm'd with sorrow soreH
Till before their wayI
A couching lion layI
-
Turning back was vainC
Soon his heavy maneC
Bore them to the groundJ
Then he stalk'd aroundJ
-
Smelling to his preyI
But their fears allayI
When he licks their handsK
And silent by them standsK
-
They look upon his eyesL
Fill'd with deep surpriseL
And wondering beholdM
A spirit arm'd in goldM
-
On his head a crownC
On his shoulders downC
Flow'd his golden hairN
Gone was all their careN
-
Follow me he saidO
Weep not for the maidP
In my palace deepB
Lyca lies asleepB
-
Then they followedQ
Where the vision ledO
And saw their sleeping childE
Among tygers wildE
-
To this day they dwellR
In a lonely dellR
Nor fear the wolvish howlS
Nor the lion's growlS
