The Human Abstract Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCC DDEE FGHI JKLC MMJJ CCNN

Pity would be no moreA
If we did not make somebody PoorB
And Mercy no more could beC
If all were as happy as weC
-
And mutual fear brings peaceD
Till the selfish loves increaseD
Then Cruelty knits a snareE
And spreads his baits with careE
-
He sits down with holy fearsF
And waters the ground with tearsG
Then Humility takes its rootH
Underneath his footI
-
Soon spreads the dismal shadeJ
Of Mystery over his headK
And the Caterpillar and FlyL
Feed on the MysteryC
-
And it bears the fruit of DeceitM
Ruddy and sweet to eatM
And the Raven his nest has madeJ
In its thickest shadeJ
-
The Gods of the earth and seaC
Sought thro' Nature to find this TreeC
But their search was all in vainN
There grows one in the Human BrainN
