I Rose Up At The Dawn Of Day Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAAB CCDE FFGG AAHH AAII AAJJ CCKK

I rose up at the dawn of dayA
Get thee away get thee awayA
Pray'st thou for riches Away awayA
This is the Throne of Mammon grey 'B
-
Said I This sure is very oddC
I took it to be the Throne of GodC
For everything besides I haveD
It is only for riches that I can craveE
-
I have mental joy and mental healthF
And mental friends and mental wealthF
I've a wife I love and that loves meG
I've all but riches bodilyG
-
I am in God's presence night and dayA
And He never turns His face awayA
The accuser of sins by my side doth standH
And he holds my money bag in his handH
-
For my worldly things God makes him payA
And he'd pay for more if to him I would prayA
And so you may do the worst you can doI
Be assur'd Mr Devil I won't pray to youI
-
Then if for riches I must not prayA
God knows I little of prayers need sayA
So as a church is known by its steepleJ
If I pray it must be for other peopleJ
-
He says if I do not worship him for a GodC
I shall eat coarser food and go worse shodC
So as I don't value such things as theseK
You must do Mr Devil just as God pleaseK
