MY Spectre around me night and dayA
Like a wild beast guards my wayA
My Emanation far withinB
Weeps incessantly for my sinB
-
A fathomless and boundless deepC
There we wander there we weepC
On the hungry craving windD
My Spectre follows thee behindD
-
He scents thy footsteps in the snowE
Wheresoever thou dost goE
Thro the wintry hail and rainF
When wilt thou return againG
-
Dost thou not in pride and scornH
Fill with tempests all my mornH
And with jealousies and fearsI
Fill my pleasant nights with tearsJ
-
Seven of my sweet loves thy knifeK
Has bereav d of their lifeK
Their marble tombs I built with tearsJ
And with cold and shuddering fearsI
-
Seven more loves weep night and dayA
Round the tombs where my loves layA
And seven more loves attend each nightL
Around my couch with torches brightL
-
And seven more loves in my bedM
Crown with wine my mournful headM
Pitying and forgiving allN
Thy transgressions great and smallN
-
When wilt thou return and viewO
My loves and them to life renewO
When wilt thou return and liveP
When wilt thou pity as I forgiveQ
-
O er my sins thou sit and moanR
Hast thou no sins of thy ownR
O er my sins thou sit and weepC
And lull thy own sins fast asleepC
-
What transgressions I commitS
Are for thy transgressions fitS
They thy harlots thou their slaveT
And my bed becomes their graveT
-
Never never I returnU
Still for victory I burnU
Living thee alone I ll haveV
And when dead I ll be thy graveT
-
Thro the Heaven and Earth and HellW
Thou shalt never quellW
I will fly and thou pursueO
Night and morn the flight renewO
-
Poor pale pitiable formX
That I follow in a stormX
Iron tears and groans of leadM
Bind around my aching headM
-
Till I turn from Female loveY
And root up the Infernal GroveZ
I shall never worthy beA2
To step into EternityA2
-
And to end thy cruel mocksB2
Annihilate thee on the rocksB2
And another form createC2
To be subservient to my fateC2
-
Let us agree to give up loveY
And root up the Infernal GroveZ
Then shall we return and seeA2
The worlds of happy EternityA2
-
And throughout all EternityA2
I forgive you you forgive meA2
As our dear Redeemer saidM
This the Wine and this the BreadM
