on Stean cliff road 'ithin the drong | F |
up where as vo'k do pass along | F |
the turnen stile a painted white | G |
do sheen by day an' show by night | G |
Vor always there as we did goo | F |
to church thik stile did let us drough | D |
wi' spreaden arms that wheeled to guide | H |
us each in turn to t'other zide | H |
An' vu'st ov all the train he took | F |
my wife wi' winsome gait an' look | F |
An' then zent on my little maid | H |
a skippen onward overjay'd | H |
to reach agean the pleace o' pride | H |
her comely mother's left han' zide | H |
An' then a wheelen roun' he took | F |
on me 'ithin his third white nook | F |
An' in the fourth a sheaken wild | H |
he zent us on our giddy child | H |
But eesterday he guided slow | I |
my downcast Jenny vull o' woe | I |
an' then my little maid in black | F |
a walken softly on her track | F |
An' after he'd a turned agean | J |
to let me goo along the leane | J |
he had noo little bwoy to vill | I |
his last white earms an' they stood still | I |
