To Manon, On His Fortune In Loving Her Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDDEDEFGHIGJ

I did not choose thee dearest It was LoveA
That made the choice not I Mine eyes were blindB
As a rude shepherd's who to some lone groveC
His offering brings and cares not at what shrineD
He bends his knee The gifts alone were mineD
The rest was Love's He took me by the handE
And fired the sacrifice and poured the wineD
And spoke the words I might not understandE
I was unwise in all but the dear chanceF
Which was my fortune and the blind desireG
Which led my foolish steps to Love's abodeH
And youth's sublime unreason'd prescienceI
Which raised an altar and inscribed in fireG
Its dedication To the Unknown GodJ
