On Her Lightheartedness Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCBADEFDEFI WOULD I had thy courage dear to face | A |
This bankruptcy of love and greet despair | B |
With smiling eyes and unconcerned embrace | A |
And these few words of banter at dull care | B |
I would that I could sing and comb my hair | B |
Like thee the morning through and choose my dress | C |
And gravely argue what I best should wear | B |
A shade of ribbon or a fold of lace | A |
I would I had thy courage and thy peace | D |
Peace passing understanding that mine eyes | E |
Could find forgetfulness like thine in sleep | F |
That all the past for me like thee could cease | D |
And leave me cheerfully sublimely wise | E |
Like David with washed face who ceased to weep | F |
