Many Are Called Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Many are called dear heart to happinessA
But few are chosen even for a wild short yearB
Love calls us from our sleep and we make stressC
To rise and greet him in a world austereB
With a sweet dawn while blithe as chanticleerB
He carols his brave message and we loosenD
The shutters of our grief to find him nearB
Many are called by Love but few are chosenD
-
Love's voice is truth He speaks his messagesE
In tones we dare not doubt and we give earB
As to a prophet of our wildernessA
The glorious lord of a new hemisphereB
And we run we too glorious without fearB
Like children on bright ice too thinly frozenD
Gay to our doom Ah me The plunge was sheerB
Many are called by Love but few are chosenD
-
Love chooses whom he will to ban or blessC
My fate was a wild shepherd's on the drearB
Plains of wan hope whose one time shepherdessC
Was lost even in the winning and whose cheerB
Has since been of the yellow leaf and sereB
Scorned is the rose tree Time finds no last rose onF
And silence claims him and the end is nearB
Many are called by Love but few are chosenD
-
Queen of my life I do not love you lessC
Because you choose not me to cast your woes onF
It is enough for me you once said Yes ''-
Many are called by Love but few are chosenD
