Her Name Liberty Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBABA CD DA

I thought to do a deed of chivalryA
An act of worth which haply in her sightB
Who was my mistress should recorded beA
And of the nations And when thus the fightB
Faltered and men once bold with faces whiteB
Turned this and that way in excuse to fleeA
I only stood and by the foeman's mightB
Was overborne and mangled cruellyA
-
Then crawled I to her feet in whose dear causeC
I made this venture and Behold '' I saidD
How I am wounded for thee in these wars ''-
But she Poor cripple wouldst thou I should wedD
A limbless trunk '' and laughing turned from meA
Yet was she fair and her name Liberty ''-
