Esther, A Sonnet Sequence: Xxxvi Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDFGHGIJJ

She watched me curiously with mocking eyesA
Yet tenderly till once again her mirthB
Prevailed with her and quick in feigned surpriseA
Thrusting me back Ah traitor '' she broke forthC
'Twas not for me then you were waiting thereD
Not me poor foolish me The Queen of LoveE
The woman of the booth She was your careD
Monster to dare me thus And yet you proveF
Your wit in vain for look you foolish boyG
She cannot walk the streets like you and meH
Or the town would be at her heels '' Convulsed with joyG
At this new jest she laughed remorselesslyI
Till I was almost angry and inclinedJ
To leave her there And then she changed her mindJ
