Esther, A Sonnet Sequence: Xxvi Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDEFGFGHH

I linger on the threshold of my youthA
If you could see me now as then I wasB
A fair faced frightened boy with eyes of truthA
Scared at the world yet angry at its lawsC
Plotting all plots a blushing CatalineD
Betrayed by his own cheeks a misanthropeE
In love with all things human and divineD
The very fool of fortune and high hopeE
You would deny you knew me Oh the daysF
Of our absurd first manhood rich in forceG
Rich in desire of happiness and praiseF
Yet impotent in its heroic courseG
And all for lack of that one worthless thingH
Knowledge of life and love and sufferingH
