Esther, A Sonnet Sequence: Xxii Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCEFGFGHH

You know the story of my birth the nameA
Which I inherited for good and illB
The secret of my father's fame and shameA
His tragedy and death on that dark hillB
You know at least what the world knows or knewC
For time has taken half the lookers onD
As it took him and leaves his followers fewC
And those that loved him scarce or almost noneE
To me his son there had remained the storyF
Told and retold by her who knew it bestG
A mystery of love perhaps of gloryF
A heritage to hold and a bequestG
Ah how it loved him that sad woman's heartH
What faith was hers and what a martyr's partH
