Esther, A Sonnet Sequence: Xvii Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDEFGFGHH

I touched that knee She did not show surpriseA
And the earth had not opened at our feetB
She did not even laugh Her foolish eyesA
Twinkled a moment in her cheeks then setC
Like fog bound stars for ever from my sightD
And at a signal from the little womanE
Who clung to me still a chorus left and rightD
Of laughter rose Homeric and inhumanE
Drowning all further sense in one wild roarF
I heard the spotted girl with leopard lipsG
Complain that she was hungry as beforeF
And all the world was merged in an eclipseG
Darkening the air around and overheadH
And then I broke away and turned and fledH
