Esther, A Sonnet Sequence: Xlix Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEFEGHGHIJ

I will not tell the secrets of that placeA
When Madame Blanche returned to us againB
I was kneeling there while Esther kissed my faceA
And dried and comforted my tears O vainC
And happy tears O griefs thrice comfortedD
I trembled but not with fear If I was dumbE
'Twas not for lack of speech where all was saidF
My doubts were ended and my fears o'ercomeE
And joy had triumphed Life has given me muchG
And pleasure much and Heaven may yet have storeH
Of nobler hopes to kindle and to touchG
But never for all time ah never moreH
That delicate dawn of wonder when lips moveI
First to the love of life and love of loveJ
