To L. W Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCCB DDEFFE GGHIIJ KKLMML NNOPQO RRSTTS UUVWWV

When the path of my lifeA
Lay through trouble and strifeA
And temptation encompassed me roundB
As a light in the shadeC
Thou wast sent to mine aidC
And a harbour of refuge was foundB
-
I beheld in thine eyeD
As a beam from on highD
The ray of compassion revealedE
And I turned in reliefF
From the Valley of GriefF
I turned to be strengthened and healedE
-
In the words that you breathedG
All my sorrow was sheathedG
And peace like a dove settled downH
And the calm of your presenceI
Like mercy's pure essenceI
Recaptured the faith that had flownJ
-
Since then if perplexedK
If harassed or vexedK
If tempted afflicted or triedL
I have sought thee to cheerM
Thou hast ever been nearM
To comfort to soothe and to guideL
-
Thus a thrill of affectionN
Must greet the reflectionN
That thou hast considered my needsO
And my heart can but moveP
With a reverent loveQ
As I ponder thy merciful deedsO
-
Though feeble and weakR
Are the words that I speakR
Such gratitude wells in my soulS
That I dare not expressT
What I fain would confessT
Lest my pen should escape my controlS
-
Yet these measures restrainedU
Will have surely attainedU
The purpose that caused them to beV
If of all that I feelW
They should chance to revealW
But a hint in a whisper to theeV
