Pro Deo Et Patria Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF AGAG HIHI

Silent yet fiercely the battle is ragingA
Blood is not flowing but poison is spreadB
Freedom and slavery madly are wagingA
A war that will last till its cause shall be deadB
-
Canada thine is the field of the battleC
Nor would the conflict be long or severeD
Were not thy statesmen like dumb driven cattleC
Led by emolument daunted by fearD
-
Slowly advances the Jesuit factionE
Crafty and subtle the means they employF
Protestants fight but uncertain their actionE
Party dissensions their power destroyF
-
Love of their country still loudly professingA
On to the conflict divided they goG
Firmest allegiance to Britain confessingA
Still disunited they fight with her foeG
-
Canada these are the men who defend theeH
These the brave soldiers who fight in thy nameI
Fierce is the struggle but soon will the end beH
And Leo shall lead thee to glory and fameI
