Christmas Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD ECFC DGDG CDCD HIHI JCJC

'Tis Christmas day the bells ring outA
The joyous tidings far and nearB
And children hail with gladsome shoutA
The merry sound of Christmas cheerB
-
'Tis Christmas day the children's dayC
When He was born a little childD
To take Creation's sin awayC
And purify the Truth defiledD
-
He taught the world to walk by faithE
And lest their feet should go astrayC
He trod Himself the faithful pathF
And showed His followers the wayC
-
He taught a Hope to all oppressedD
By Sorrow's weight or Sin's remorseG
Himself the contrite sinner blessedD
To give His words a greater forceG
-
Oh ye who tread in Trial's wayC
Nor scarce can murmuring resistD
Remember on His natal dayC
The faithful suffering of ChristD
-
And ye whose thoughts in memory traceH
A darkened life of wrongful deedsI
Look up and see His kindly faceH
Who now for your allegiance pleadsI
-
Oh Christians to your name be trueJ
Cast all your faithlessness awayC
And let your hope be born anewJ
On this your Saviour's natal dayC
