When From The Sod The Flow'rets Spring Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCCDD CECFBBGG HBHBIIB

When from the sod the flow'rets springA
And smile to meet the sun's bright rayB
When birds their sweetest carols singA
In all them morning pride of MayB
What lovelier than the prospect thereC
Can earth boast any thing more fairC
To me it seems an almost heavenD
So beauteous to my eyes that vision bright is givenD
-
But when a lady chaste and fairC
Noble and clad in rich attireE
Walks through the throng with gracious airC
As sun that bids the stars retireF
Then where are all thy boastings MayB
What hast thou beautiful and gayB
Compared with that supreme delightG
We leave thy loveliest flowers and watch that lady brightG
-
Wouldst thou believe me come and placeH
Before thee all this pride of MayB
Then look but on my lady's faceH
And which is best and brightest sayB
For me how soon if choice were mineI
This would I take and that resignI
And say 'Though sweet thy beauties MayB
I'd rather forfeit all than lose my lady gay '-
