The Orphan Maid Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDEFGHGIEIEJKJK LMLMNJNJOEPEQEQE

November's hail cloud drifts awayA
November's sunbeam wanB
Looks coldly on the castle greyA
When forth comes Lady AnneC
The orphan by the oak was setD
Her arms her feet were bareE
The hail drops had not melted yetD
Amid her raven hairE
And dame she said by all the tiesF
That child and mother knowG
Aid one who never knew these joysH
Relieve an orphan's woeG
The lady said An orphan's stateI
Is hard and sad to bearE
Yet worse the widow'd mother's fateI
Who mourns both lord and heirE
Twelve times the rolling year has spedJ
Since when from vengeance wildK
Of fierce Strathallan's Chief I fledJ
Forth's eddies whelm'd my childK
Twelve times the year its course has borneL
The wandering maid repliedM
Since fishers on Saint Bridget's mornL
Drew nets on Campsie sideM
Saint Bridget sent no scaly spoilN
An infant wellnigh deadJ
They saved and rear'd in want and toilN
To beg from you her bredJ
That orphan maid the lady kiss'dO
My husband's looks you bearE
Saint Bridget and her morn be bless'dP
You are his widow's heirE
They've robed that maid so poor and paleQ
In silk and sandals rareE
And pearls for drops of frozen hailQ
Are glistening in her hairE
