Hunting Song Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDAA AADDEFAA AAGGHHAA AAIIDDAA

Waken lords and ladies gayA
On the mountain dawns the dayA
All the jolly chase is hereB
With hawk and horse and hunting spearC
Hounds are in their couples yellingD
Hawks are whistling horns are knellingD
Merrily merrily mingle theyA
Waken lords and ladies gayA
-
Waken lords and ladies gayA
The mist has left the mountain grayA
Springlets in the dawn are steamingD
Diamonds on the brake are gleamingD
And foresters have busy beenE
To track the buck in thicket greenF
Now we come to chant our layA
Waken lords and ladies gayA
-
Waken lords and ladies gayA
To the greenwood haste awayA
We can show you where he liesG
Fleet of foot and tall of sizeG
We can show the marks he madeH
When 'gainst the oak his antlers fray'dH
You shall see him brought to bayA
Waken lords and ladies gayA
-
Louder louder chant the layA
Waken lords and ladies gayA
Tell them youth and mirth and gleeI
Run a course as well as weI
Time stern huntsman who can balkD
Staunch as hound and fleet as hawkD
Think of this and rise with dayA
Gentle lords and ladies gayA
