The winds sweep by him on his mountain throneA
Hurling the clouds together at his feetB
Till Earth is hidden lost and swallow'd upC
As in the flood of waters and he sitsD
Eyeing the boundless firmament aboveE
Proud and unruffled till his heart exclaimsF
I am a god Heaven is my home the EarthG
Serveth me but for footstoolH
-
The strong windsI
Sweep on and wide his pinions spreadeth heJ
Bear me afar and on the mighty stormK
He rides triumphant spurning the dim EarthG
Whither O whither goest thou What starL
Shall raise its mountains for thee What far orbM
Echo the fierceness of thy battle cryN
-
What dost thou when the thunder is unloosedB
I sit amongst the crags and feel the EarthG
Tremble beneath me whilst my heart is firmO
I gaze upon the lightning and my lidB
Quivers not Is their aught 'neath which my gazeP
Quaileth or waxeth faint I read the sunQ
Undazzled where the stars grow dim and paleH
-
Men gather them to battle host meets hostB
And I am borne aloft to marshal themR
I the great King of Battles that go forthS
Conquering and to conquer So do menT
Worship me Oh the mighty crash ascendsU
The shoutings and the glory and the woeV
One great full chaunt of homage to mine earsW
And there I wait the while the sacrificeX
Is slain before me then down with a swoopY
I get me from my skyey throne and dyeN
Deep in the ruddy stream my talons greyZ
Hurrah hurrah blood red's the flag for meJ
-
The time will come proud one when thou shalt dieN
Die Death I cast from me as these loose plumesA2
That moult out from my pinions let them goV
To Earth and Death go with them both I leaveB2
To mortals What have I to do with TimeC2
Let him pat forth his speed these wings of mineD2
Shall match him stroke for stroke until we reachE2
The limits of his empire and I shake him offF2
Like dust upon the threshold of the worldB
