Spring Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHIJ KLMLGG NGNGOO PQPQRR SGOGGG GGGGGG

On like a giant stalketh the strong WindA
Wrapping the clouds about him close and darkB
Rifting Creation's soul for rage is blindA
No pity hath he for the Earth all starkB
Shivering beneath the loose and drifting snowC
A scanty shroud to hide the dead belowC
-
Dead There is life within the mother's breastD
So claspeth she her young ones to her heartE
The time will come the time will come rest restD
Let the mad greybeard to his North departE
Earth shall arise and mock him in his graveF
Patience a little let the dotard raveF
-
The palsied boughs grew still there came a pauseG
And Nature's heart scarce beat for listeningH
Gazing abroad from all the tempest flawsG
With prayerful longing for the saviour SpringH
And when she heard Spring coming up the skyI
Earth rose and threw her shroud off joyfullyJ
-
Then she who once had wept like NiobeK
Beheld her children springing round her feetL
Raising young voices in the early dayM
That never to her ear had seem'd so sweetL
And the soft murmur of a thousand rillsG
Proclaim'd how Spring had loosed them on the hillsG
-
The bright Evangel came girt round with mirthN
And garlanded with youth and crown'd with flowersG
Awake arise ye sons of the new birthN
And move to the quick measure of the hoursG
Summer is coming go ye forth to meet herO
With sweetest hymeneal songs to greet herO
-
So there arose straightway a joyous trainP
Gather'd by every nook and hedgerow shadeQ
That in its passage o'er the verdant plainP
'Still in the heart a thrilling music madeQ
Sweet pilgrims they of Love in youth's gay timeR
Leading the year on to its golden primeR
-
The birds sang homage to her evermoreS
And myriad wing d things whose radiant dyesG
Made sunshine beautiful still hover'd o'erO
And bore her witness in the sunlit skiesG
And rising from the tomb in glad amazeG
Came many a sainted flower to hymn her praiseG
-
Thus from the streams and rivers from the seaG
From the stirr'd bosom of the mighty hillsG
From every glade there rose continuallyG
A blessing for her till with joyous thrillsG
Earth's bosom heaved and in man's heart a voiceG
Echoed the anthem Spring is come RejoiceG
