Sea Margins. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAAC ADDAEF AGGAHH AIIAJJ KLMKNN

Ever restless ever toilingA
Fretting fiercely on its narrow boundsB
Still filling heaven and earth with mournful soundsB
Old ocean sullen from its rocks recoilingA
Rearing wild waves foam crested to the skyA
Lashes again the beaches angrilyC
-
Slowly victor like advancingA
Marching roughly o'er the conquer'd landD
Clean sweeping olden limits from the strandD
In proud derision o'er the spoil'd Earth glancingA
Where 'neath its ruthless tide on hill or plainE
No flower or shady leaf shall bud againF
-
Slowly thus the ocean creepingA
Creeping coldly o'er the world of oldG
Stole many an Eden from the Age of GoldG
And gazing now we see blank billows sweepingA
Long cheerless wavings of the sullen seasH
Were once the sun shone bright on flowery leasH
-
Over Earth and over BeingA
Over many glories of the PastI
Remorseless floods are flowing fierce and fastI
Snatching sun lighted Tempes from our seeingA
Rolling their dreary surges o'er the shoreJ
Where Love had hoped to dwell for evermoreJ
-
Sadly on Time's heaving oceanK
Waving darkly o'er Youth's ParadiseL
Back gaze we ever with dim tearful eyesM
Seeking old joys beyond its rude commotionK
Seeking the old world glories pass'd awayN
Seeking the golden shores of Life's CathayN
