Life's chalice is empty pour in pour inA
What Pour in StrengthB
Strength for the struggle through good and illC
Through good that the soul may be upright stillC
Unspoil'd by riches unswerving in willC
To walk by the light of unvarnish'd truthD
Up the flower border'd path of youthD
Through ill that the soul may stoutly holdE
Its faith its freedom through hunger and coldE
Steadfast and pure as the true men of oldE
Strength for the sunshine strength for the gloomF
Strength for the conflict strength for the tombF
Let not the heart feel a craven fearG
Draw from the fountain deep and clearG
Brim up Life's chalice pour in pour inA
Pour in StrengthB
-
Life's chalice is empty pour in pour inA
What Pour in TruthD
Drink till the mists that enshroud the soulH
Like sleep's drowsy shadows backward rollH
And show the spirit its radiant goalH
That nought may blind it all its daysI
Or tempt it down earth's crooked waysI
Drink till the soul in the eastern skiesJ
Behold the glorious star ariseJ
That guides its steps to the promised prizeJ
Drink till the strong elixir fireK
Each aim of the being with pure desireK
Nerve the courage to dare the worldL
Though a thousand scoffers their arrows hurl'dL
Brim up Life's chalice pour in pour inA
Pour in TruthD
-
Life's chalice is empty pour in pour inA
What Pour in LoveM
To quench the thirst of the longing heartN
Heal all its sorrows with wondrous artN
And freshness and joy to its hopes impartN
To make the blossoms of life expandO
And shed their sweetness on every handO
To melt the frost of each sullen moodP
Cement the bond of true brotherhoodQ
Subdue the evil of Time with goodQ
And join the links which death hath rivenR
Betwixt this fallen sphere and HeavenR
Raising the soul above the skyS
On wings of ImmortalityT
Brim up Life's chalice pour in pour inA
Pour in LoveM
-
Life's chalice is empty pour in pour inA
What Pour in HopeU
The soul looks out through the coming yearsV
Blinded by doubts and blinded by tearsW
Sear'd with the iron of tyrant fearsV
Is there a break in Life's gloomy skyS
Can the heart reach it before it dieS
The path is weary the desert wideX
And Sorrow stalks by the pilgrim's sideX
Oh for a draught of Hope's crystal tideX
To cheer the parch'd and fainting oneR
Until his toilsome race be runR
And the bright mirage fall from the skyS
Displaced by a sweet realityT
Brim up Life's chalice pour in pour inA
Pour in HopeU
-
Life's chalice is empty pour in pour inA
What Pour in FaithY
What is Life's fabric so nobly plann'dO
Its stately dome and its ramparts grandO
If their foundation rest on the sandO
Ready to shift with Time's ebbing streamZ
And melt away like a gorgeous dreamZ
God let us trust Thee in very soothY
Feel that the visions the dreams of youthY
Its glorious hopes are all based on TruthY
Thus shall the purpose of Life grow clearG
Love shall be freed from the bondage of fearG
And the soul calmly await the morrowA2
Untroubled by visions of coming sorrowA2
Brim up Life's chalice pour in pour inA
Pour in FaithY
