At Eventide. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACD EFFEGG HIIHCC JKLHHJHH

The day fades fastA
And backward ebbs the tide of lightB
From the far hills in billows brightB
Scattering foam as they sweep pastA
O'er the low clouds that bank the skyC
And barrier day off solemnlyD
-
Above the landE
Grey shadows stretch out still and coldF
Flinging o'er water wood and woldF
Mysterious shapes whose ghastly handE
Presses down sorrow on the heartG
And silence on the lips that partG
-
The dew mist broodsH
Heavy and low o'er field and fenI
Like gloom above the souls of menI
And through the forest solitudesH
The fitful night wind rustles byC
Breathing many a wailing sighC
-
O Day O LifeJ
Ending in gloom together hereK
Though not one star of Hope appearL
Still through the cold bleak Future gazeH
That mocks thee with its murky hazeH
Soon morn shall end the doubt the strifeJ
And give unto thy weeping eyesH
The far night guarded ParadiseH
