A Night Scene Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: AAAABCBC DCCDEFEF DAADADAD DGGDDHDH AAAAIDID| The lights have faded from the little casement | A |
| As though her closing eyes had brought on night | A |
| And now she dreams Ah dreams supremely bright | A |
| While silence reigns around from roof to basement | A |
| And slow the moon is mounting up the sky | B |
| Drawing Heaven's myriads in her queenly train | C |
| Flinging rich largesse as she passes by | B |
| Of beauty freely over hill and plain | C |
| - | |
| Around the lattice creep the pure white roses | D |
| And one light bough rests gently on the pane | C |
| The diamond pane through which the angel train | C |
| Gaze on the sister saint who there reposes | D |
| The moonlight silvers softly o'er it now | E |
| And round the eaves the south wind whispers lowly | F |
| Waving the leaves like curls on maiden's brow | E |
| The peace and stillness make the place seem holy | F |
| - | |
| The little garden where she daily strays | D |
| Sleeps like the precinct of a place enchanted | A |
| And many a flower by her own dear hands planted | A |
| Waves mystically 'neath the starry rays | D |
| There is such strange still beauty in the spot | A |
| That in the misty moonshine oft it seems | D |
| A vision that the waking eye sees not | A |
| But some fair plesaunce blooming up in dreams | D |
| - | |
| The dew distill d perfumes richly rise | D |
| And float unseen about the silent air | G |
| Breathing a balmy sweetness everywhere | G |
| Like some blest secret fresh from Paradise | D |
| Upon the soul dim thoughts of Eden press | D |
| Within the stillness of this inner shrine | H |
| Where Nature has unveil'd her loveliness | D |
| And to the angels bared her soul divine | H |
| - | |
| There is no sound upon the ear of Night | A |
| The distant watch dog's bay hath sunk to rest | A |
| The thrush is brooding o'er his quiet nest | A |
| And the light clouds sweep on with noiseless flight | A |
| O heart why beat so wildly she will hear | I |
| And start from slumber in serene surprise | D |
| Away away why longer linger here | I |
| To mar the silence with thy swelling sighs | D |
