A Conceit Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHIH

The Grey beard Winter sat alone and stillA
Locking his treasures in the flinty earthB
And like a miser comfortless and chillA
Frown'd upon pleasure and rejected mirthB
-
But Spring came gentle Spring the young the fairC
And with her smiles subdued his frosty heartD
So that for very joy to see her thereC
His soul relenting play'd the lover's partD
-
And nought could bring too lovely or too sweetE
To lavish on the bright Evangel's headF
No flowers too radiant for her tender feetE
No joys too blissful o'er her life to shedF
-
And thus the land became a ParadiseG
A new made Eden redolent of joyH
Where beauty blossom'd under sunny skiesI
And peaceful pleasure reign'd without alloyH
