When I Heard At The Close Of The Day Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLEMNOPEQE ERISEE

When I heard at the close of the day how my nameA
had been receiv'd with plaudits in the capitol stillB
it was not a happy night for me that follow'dC
And else when I carous'd or when my plans were accomplish'dD
still I was not happyE
But the day when I rose at dawn from the bed of perfect healthF
refresh'd singing inhaling the ripe breath of autumnG
When I saw the full moon in the west grow pale and disappearH
in the morning lightI
When I wander'd alone over the beach and undressing bathedJ
laughing with the cool waters and saw the sun riseK
And when I thought how my dear friend my lover was on his wayL
coming O then I was happyE
O then each breath tasted sweeter and all that day my foodM
nourish'd me more and the beautiful day pass'd wellN
And the next came with equal joy and with the next at eveningO
came my friendP
And that night while all was still I heard the waters roll slowlyE
continually up the shoresQ
I heard the hissing rustle of the liquid and sands as directed to meE
whispering to congratulate meE
For the one I love most lay sleeping by me under the same coverR
in the cool nightI
In the stillness in the autumn moonbeams his face was inclinedS
toward meE
And his arm lay lightly around my breast and that night I was happyE
