By The Bivouac's Fitful Flame Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKLA

BY the bivouac's fitful flameA
A procession winding around me solemn and sweet and slow but firstB
I noteC
The tents of the sleeping army the fields' and woods' dim outlineD
The darkness lit by spots of kindled fire the silenceE
Like a phantom far or near an occasional figure movingF
The shrubs and trees as I lift my eyes they seem to be stealthilyG
watching meH
While wind in procession thoughts O tender and wondrous thoughtsI
Of life and death of home and the past and loved and of those thatJ
are far awayK
A solemn and slow procession there as I sit on the groundL
By the bivouac's fitful flameA
