The Three Hundredth Anniversary Of Milton's Birth Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A B CDDCCDDC EFFEGG

December thA
-
There was a man sent from God whose name was JohnB
-
Three hundred years have left their telltale ringsC
Upon the tree of Time since he appearedD
Milton to be remembered and reveredD
Whose spirit mounted on seraphic wingsC
Who saw though blind extraordinary thingsC
Who wrought in obloquy and perseveredD
And Orpheus like with his great music rearedD
A monument surpassing those of kingsC
-
Three hundred years courageous lofty soulE
Hast thou by precept and example taughtF
Thy lesson Have we learned it as we oughtF
Have we moved upward nearer to the goalE
Yea somewhat have we learned be with us stillG
And teach us Man's high function to fulfilG
