The Sabbath Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABACAD EFEFEF

Who careless would behold a goodly treeA
Or noble palace stricken to decayB
Who would drop precious jewels in the seaA
Or cast rare heirlooms on the trodden wayB
Who but a prodigal in wantonnessA
Would waste his patrimony for swine's foodC
Who would his birthright sell for pottage messA
But a dull sensual Esau blind to goodD
-
Our tree o'ershadowing the sons of careE
Our palace welcoming the weary guestF
Our precious jewel and our heirloom rareE
Our birthright and our patrimony blestF
Art thou to guard and keep for ever fairE
Sweet Christian Sabbath day of joy and restF
