The Roarin' Game. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCAA AADDEEAA AADDDDAA AAFFGGAA AADDHHAA

The roarin' game the roarin' gameA
From Scotland's bonnie land it cameA
The land of loch and firth and benB
And comely dames and stalwart menB
It crossed the broad Atlantic tideC
With Scots who came to dwell this sideC
And bring our country wealth and fameA
The roarin' game the roarin' gameA
-
The roarin' game the roarin' gameA
Makes every land to Scotsmen hameA
Where'er the winter's breath congealsD
The water see the sturdy chielsD
With stane and besom play and sweepE
Intently gaze and shout and leapE
With genial fervor all aflameA
The roarin' game the roarin' gameA
-
The roarin' game the roarin' gameA
Though stupid folk may think it tameA
Affect the smile that wisdom castsD
On rattle brained enthusiastsD
And jest in condescending tonesD
Of boys and marbles men and stonesD
'Tis fine enjoyment just the sameA
The roarin' game the roarin' gameA
-
The roarin' game the roarin' gameA
Its meed of praise may justly claimA
As firm as ice upon the pondF
It is of hearts a brother bondF
It trains us to be wise and trueG
In all we undertake to doG
And fits for every higher aimA
The roarin' game the roarin' gameA
-
The roarin' game the roarin' gameA
Will never give us cause for shameA
No shattered nerves and aching headsD
Bad consciences and nameless dreadsD
But health and strength and minds sereneH
And kindly hearts and friendly mienH
No honest tongue will e'er defameA
The roarin' game the roarin' gameA
