The Prayer Of The Penitent Profligate Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGHIJKILMNOAPLord I am weak and worthless better fit | A |
To grovel in the dust a worm of earth | B |
Than wear Thy holy image which I do | C |
But daily with defilement desecrate | D |
Long suffering God in mercy infinite | E |
That thou did'st not long since have cut me off | F |
But still dost keep me in the place of hope | G |
Weak worthless wicked is this heart of mine | H |
But Thou O Lord art all in all to me | I |
For Thou art strong Thy power is supreme | J |
The God of might from Thee all strength is sprung | K |
And Thou hast vanquished man's great Enemy | I |
And by Thy strength I too may vanquish him | L |
And thus be worthy washed from sin to wear | M |
The holy image of my Maker God | N |
Then Lord O Lord give unto me Thy strength | O |
I know Thou wilt for Thou hast promised it | A |
Omnipotent Thy name and love Thine attribute | P |
