| We have no strivings and no hunger pain | A |
| For spiritual food our souls are dead | B |
| So judged I till the day when news was rife | C |
| Of fire besieging scholars and their dames | D |
| And bravely one gave up her own fair life | C |
| In saving the most helpless from the flames | D |
