The Old And The New Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGG

Scorn not the Old 'twas sacred in its dayA
A truth overpowering error with its mightB
A light dispelling darkness with its rayA
A victory won an intermediate heightB
Which seers untrammel'd by their creeds of yoreC
Heroes and saints triumphantly attainedD
With hard assail and tribulation soreC
That we might use the vantage ground they gain'dD
-
Scorn not the Old but hail and seize the NewE
With thrill'd intelligences hearts that burnF
And such truth seeking spirits that it tooE
May soon be superseded in its turnF
And men may ever as the ages rollG
March onward toward the still receding goalG
