Study In Solitude Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCBCC DEDEEFEFF BGBGGBGBB

'Tis true in midst of all there may ariseA
For man's society a sudden thirstB
A sense of hopeless vacancy which driesA
The spirit with a loneliness accurstB
A longing irresistible to burstB
The branchy brake with other birds to singC
Or as from where in solemn shades immerstB
The beetle comes to wanton on the wingC
Around my lamplight flame alas poor foolish thingC
-
But here thou may'st associate though aloneD
With worthiest men the best of every ageE
Through whom the universe of thought has grownD
To what it is the noble good and sageE
How vain the fret how frivolous the rageE
For social rank when thus e'en monarchs deignF
In close communion gladly to engageE
Nay more than monarchs Still the Mantuan swainF
His fadeless laurel wears What crowned Augustus' reignF
-
A thing of gold 'tis crumbled in the dustB
The crowns of sovereigns and their sceptres allG
Decay and are forgotten Who would trustB
His fame to what fleet ruin must inthralG
Tombs will obliterate and columns fallG
Annals be lost and nothing have remainedB
Of dynasties The Conqueror of GaulG
And Lord of the World may yet have only reignedB
By Shakspere's suff'rance What hath all the rest attainedB
